Become a Meadham Kirchhoff Babe

22 Feb

If you’re anything like me you will have been squealing with delight to see the explosion of sequins, pom-poms and fun fur that Meadham Kirchhoff sent down the catwalk yesterday (me, albeit, watching online from the comfort of my bedroom.)   Here are some of my favourite looks from the collection:

It features many similar silhouettes to their Spring collection but with even more bonkers layering; broad-shouldered crop-bodied jackets, large-collared shirts and a-line skirts

But if your budget doesn’t stretch to the real deal, here’s some of my suggestions for bringing some of that MK  fun into your life:

1. Get flatforming.

I bought these lil’ puppies back in October for a mere £14, and oh how people laughed at me. Well, ladies, in the wise words of Nathan Barley “Today: ridicule, tomorrow: really cool.”

2. Remember: More IS More

Sew pom-poms along the hem of a dress of a cardigan, or loop a pair on to the front of your new flatforms.  Cover everything you own in diamontes or stickers.

Stock up on disc sequins, the bigger they are the less sewing you have to do. And sew appliques onto jumpers and blouses – I got this one for £1 at Hobbycraft.

3. Think: party bag chic

Remember those packs of 6 bangles/ beaded bracelets/ rings/ yo-yos you could buy, to fill goodie bags for guests to take home at the end of a party? Well that’s exactly the kind of accessories we’re looking for here. The more plastic-y and colourful the better. Take a look in the party section of larger Tesco stores, or perhaps Toys-R-Us. If Woolworths still existed it would surely be the mecca of the Meadham Kirchhoff babe.

4. Listen to more Marilyn Manson

Because you listen to too much Hole, right?

Congratulations to Meadham Kirchhoff for captivating the entire fashion world yet again!

You can watch the whole show back online at the Topshop website

The Girl with the Most Cake

25 Sep

My adoration  of Meadham Kirchhoff is growing everyday. Or at least it would be if I was able to afford their beautiful clothes. (Unless you count a couple of bits from their wonderful lines for Topshop.) So I love them from afar, being inspired by their bonkers layered outfits season after season.

I think every girl who went through that certain ‘phase’ during her teenage years can look at their clothes with a warm nostalgia that harks back to wearing nightdresses bought from Camden Market and not knowing how many barettes in your hair is too many.  It seems like the Meadham Kirchhoff boys enjoy putting on a bit of a spectacle, with recent show sets including pink trees, a ‘riot grrl’ shrine and a canopy of pastel-coloured balloons. Watching their S/S11 show on Grazia’s YouTube channel gave me a tingle of excitement, it felt like someone had brought my angsty GCSE Art project (that involved photocopying the lyrics pages of Pretty on the Inside into my sketchbook and culminated in a portrait of Courtney Love done in crayon) to life!

Here are a few of my favourite M.K. looks from the last few years. Until the time comes that I can own a few of their pieces myself, I hope they will continue to produce lines for Topshop, though there hasn’t been news of one lately… </3
